Parental Words Of Affirmation

On 5th of June 2013, I received a text message from one of my Recruit's parents. "Hi Daniel, Andy's mom here. Thanks for taking care of my son. His eye now is swelling, but looks okay. He keeps telling me that you are a good Officer, who gives him a lot of encouragement and comfort. Thanks for that."

Ex Mail Run: Letter For REC Darryel

"Dear Son,
I am not your father. I am your Commander. It is my privilege to write to you for Ex Mail Run-a major milestone of every recruit's BMT journey. This letter is given to you on the third day of field camp, where you and the Platoon are most vulnerable, tired, frustrated and missing the comforts of home. No 7-Eleven convenience store to buy a BIG Gulp, no Cold Storage to buy some Coca Cola, no Air-Conditioner, no water tap (only Jerry Cans), not hot showers, no TV/Facebook and no fresh cooking done by your parents (the mess tin is your kitchen). This is what Singapore will look like if we do not defend it. We will lose everything that used to come to us so conveniently. Turn on the tap and you have clean NEWater. The food is cold and the microwave is around the kitchen counter. Oh night time already, switch on the lights (Here in the woods, your torchlight might be your greatest friend who will illuminate your path and enable you to search your ten-pack items in the darkness). Wah, so hot, I want to shower sia (Here your only choices are soap sponge and powder bath). In war, there is no luxury and you have no choice. The reason why we can have choices today is because SOMEONE OUT THERE was serving his National Service while we sleep peacefully for the past 2 decades. The word is-Sacrifice. Are you willing to pay the price to train harder in Basic Military Training so that the civilians out there continue to enjoy freedom and have the prerogative of choices? Get comfortable with the uncomfortable. I wish you well and may God grant you strength to remain strong as you embark on your shellscrape digging.
Shalom, Your Commander."

I Am Platoon Commander of 2nd Company, Gladiators

Embarking on my new military adventure at BMTC School 4, Rocky Hill Camp. I will be given the prerogative and responsibility of leading and training the 02/13 Standard PTP (Physical Training Phase) batch of Recruits. I will be handling a Platoon of gentlemen who were struggled through all their lives. Drug Abuse. Fear. Insecurity. Financial. Greed. Tainted Pride. Outlaw. It is my duty to transform their lives and forge them into noble men of character. Let the metamorphosis begin.

The Question Is Not 'Why Go?' But 'Why Stay?'

In memory of Dr. John Geddie who went to Aneityum (a Polynesian island) in 1848 and worked there for 24 years. Written in his memory are these words: "When he landed, in 1848, there were no Christians. When he left, in 1872, there were no heathens."

Word Of Affirmation By REC Benjamin Cheng

While chatting with Benjamin Cheng on FaceBook, he told me, "To be honest, I am not really surprised that you did well for A Levels and that you got into Officer Cadet School. I am proud that you are from Christ Church and Innova. And these things are only made possible because you are a man after God."

2 Corinthians 4:17 says,"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

The late President of the Republic of Singapura, Mr. Yusok bin Ishak said, "You will keep this sword and live by the ideals for which it is given. So long as you carry this sword, live by its honour."

Good Friday-Running Man!

Today we attended the NAVteens Good Friday event at Vivo City. Ran around the mall to compete in the Stations: Flogged, Before The Governor, Betrayal, Carrying The Cross and Death Of Christ. Honestly, my team enjoyed our day trying to accumulate the maximum points to earn the Victor's Crown. We lost in the game. However, the best part that I will always remember is that Jerome, Sen Ree and James shared Christ with the Sec 1s. Bryan accepted Jesus as LORD and Saviour. Annabel is about to cross over the 'Bridge' from the Sinner's side (Left) to the Saviour's side (Right). Jun Jie requested to join Sen Ree's Bible Study group to discover more about God. What harvest we reaped and what victory we acquired today. May the Holy Spirit continue to speak into the lives of these Lost Sheep.

Ex Panther-OCS Final Commissioning Mission

Praise the LORD that I have successfully and safely completed the OCS (Infantry) Summary Mission-Ex Panther on Thursday, 7th of March. Had the grand privilege to sit on the Special Forces' and Guardmen's Chinook which landed at our start point, AUDI. Echo Wing bravely conducted both a dusk and a dawn deliberate attack on our respective objectives. We are proud to announce that our next destination is the Platoon Assault Course and followed by our long-awaited Joint Term and Commissioning Parade.

Family-Where Home Is

Learning to appreciate the comfort and care I receive at home every weekend I book out. I realised that if I do not serve at home by doing the laundry, fixing the furnitures, washing the dishes, using the baking oven, and sweeping & mopping etc, it will not be long before I leave for the Logos Hope and miss this place and family.

Delicious food ranging from Sour Plum Sweet Potato Fries to Chicken Cutlet, Strawberry Mochi to Fried Oreo, Taiwan Sausages to Mango Shave Ice, Tenpura to Papaya Milk, Oyster Omelette to Banana Pancake, and Cheese Shrimps to Quail Eggs. Also, several amazing and life-changing movies that I have watched during my furlough back in Singapore.

Theme For 2013: Metamorphosis—Break Through

Once transformed, a butterfly can never go back to its larvae or pupae form. May the year 2013 be a powerful year where I walk closely with the LORD Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" We must crucify our own self and never turn back to our past sinful habits. Matthew 16:25 say, "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.”

Genesis 19:23-26 proclaim, "By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land. Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land. But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." We must remember Lot's wife's example. There is no turning back to the old life.

"Satan Trembles When He Sees The Weakest Christian On His Knees." By William Cowper

“One day George Mueller began praying for five of his friends. After many months, one of them came to the Lord. Ten years later, two others were converted. It took 25 years before the fourth man was saved. Mueller persevered in prayer until his death for the fifth friend, and throughout those 52 years he never gave up hoping that he would accept Christ! His faith was rewarded, for soon after Mueller’s funeral the last one was saved."
